Victoria Inn: Boutique Bed and Breakfast in Peckham

by ElenaSergeeva

Yes I’m sure that you all know Beckham, but have you heard of  Peckham? In fact Peckham is known to be one of the up and coming places to live in London right now. A district of south-east London, Peckham has everything from fruit markets, ethnic shops, with a village vibe where you have your baker, hairdresser, laundry store and butcher, right next door to each other. It’s a vibrant neighbourhood with character, complemented with cute little cafes, pubs and bars. On our last two nights in London, we stayed at the Victoria Inn, a Boutique Bed and Breakfast hotel.

Victoria Inn Public House and Boutique hotel in Peckham

Victoria Inn – A Boutique Peckham Hotel

The Victoria Inn is a boutique hotel and a pub which is set right in the heart of Peckham on the corner of the central Bellenden Road. This modern bed and breakfast Public House and Boutique hotel features 15 beautifully restored guest rooms which are located on the top floors of the pub which has been operating since 1878.

This was my first time staying in a traditional yet modern British bed and breakfast hotel and I greatly enjoyed this experience.  There are four room types available at the Victoria Inn, we stayed at the Feature Double Room with the view of the Shard right from the bathroom window.

The facilities include a Nespresso machine, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi and direct dial telephone.

Despite its modern remake, this is a traditional public house and hotel which dates to 1878, thus its original construction does not feature an elevator. Our bedroom was located on the top floor so we had to take the stairs. But a short climb up and you are successfully there and in case you need help with your luggages, the friendly staff is always there to assist.

The Victoria Inn Pub

The Victoria Inn pub which is located on the ground floor serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  We tried both the breakfast and the dinner menu.

For breakfast you can order anything you like on the menu which is à la carte. I had the English breakfast and the crushed avocado which is served on a sourdough toast and topped with a soft poached egg.

I had this on both breakfasts as I am a huge fan of avocado. On the second morning I tried the Eggs Florentine which were equally excellent. My friend Marissa tried their Traditional Scottish porridge topped with fruit honey and she loved it.

The pub serves draught lines of locally sourced beer and cider and 5 hand pulls of gravity fed cask ale. We had dinner here on the first night. I went for the fish and chips, the portion was very generous and filling.

Peckham – cool, vibrant and diverse

Getting to Peckham is very easy, the closest station to the hotel is the Peckham Rye which features excellent connections to main line stations such as London Bridge, Victoria, Blackfriars and Kings Cross St Pancras.

It also links to Shoreditch, Hoxton, Dalston, Clapham, Whitechapel, Brick Lane and Islington via the newly extended London Overground.

On the first day of our stay we came here from Shoreditch and it was very easy to get to. In the afternoon we took a walk down the Bellenden Road.

The area is lined with charming Victorian houses which we couldn’t stop admiring and taking photos of.

There are a few cool places in the area such as Frank’s which is rated as one of the top rooftop bars in London. Unfortunately we didn’t visit any during our stay.

Peckham is home to a number of artists thus the area has a lively gallery scene. There is also a Rooftop Film Club which plays classic films. Peckham is not your typical area, it’s definitely a cool kid on the block, and hey it’s only a 10 minute train ride to central London.
