Novotel London Canary Wharf: A mix of historical and modern

by ElenaSergeeva

On the banks of River Thames this striking new addition to the Canary Wharf neighborhood offers a home away from home in the heart of London’s main business district.

Novotel London Canary Wharf is a stylish 39-storey hotel which enjoys a prime location with soaring 360 views across the dazzling London skyline. A short 20-minute tube ride and you will find yourselves right in the heart of London.

Connected with both the London underground (Jubilee line) and the DLR line which are a short 6 minute walk from the hotel, the Novotel London Canary Wharf offers its guests seamless transportation options — getting to the major attractions.

My  Novotel London Canary Wharf Experience

The hotel’s design highlights the area’s bespoke history and tradition, inspired by the maritime age. The London Docklands were once the center of trade and imports from the West and East Indies. The whole area was filled with exotic smells of spices and teas. The innovative design incorporates the use of metal, pipes, ropes, modern fixtures and fine fabrics.

As you walk inside this skyscraper you will immediately get a homey feeling from the cozy and inviting reception area. It is urban, chic, elegant and bright at the same time. The highlight is a hanging sofa and wooden table fixture which is lit by large striking lightbulbs.

Executive Rooms on the 32nd floor

My friend Chrysoula (Travel Passionate) and I were accommodated in an Executive Room on the 32nd floor of the Novotel London Canary Wharf.

As much as I love boutique hotels I am also a huge fan of skyscraper hotels with skyline city views. I have stayed at an Executive Room at the Novotel Bangkok Platinum in Thailand and there were a lot of similarities in the style of accommodation.

The Executive Room at the Novotel London Canary Wharf has an exclusive eco-designed LIVE N DREAM comfort bedding, and when you look at the pillows they have a certain bend that is not common in hotel bedding. Our room was very spacious and the views were beyond amazing.

The wood accents in the decor gave a very warm feeling to the overall guestroom ambience. There was a separate sitting corner with a couch and a small coffee table, a separate woking desk with a large plasma screen TV, a Nespresso machine and coffee/tea making facilities, fully stocked mini-bar, hairdryer, iron board and iron.

VOSS water both still and sparkling is complimentary and so is the WiFi. What is also excellent is that the room has plenty of USB plug options next to the bed and close to the working desk. This is especially helpful when you need to charge a few power banks at once.

The bathroom features a walk in shower with a smart glass which can turn from opaque to clear with a touch of a button for privacy.

There were no bathrobes or slippers in the room but once we asked the housekeeping they had two sets placed in our room. The toiletries are Nuxe an award winning range of skin care and beauty products.

Guests staying at the Executive Rooms also have the privilege of enjoying the services of an Executive Lounge (wine and snacks everyday from 6-8pm).

The cozy Le Club Lounge is located on the first floor of the hotel with a direct staircase access from the lobby and reception area.

We enjoyed a glass of wine as well as the sweet and savoury bites on two occasions. One day we had ham and cheese croquets and quinoa fruits mixed salad.

Eating and Drinking at the Novotel London Canary Wharf

One of the highlights of the culinary scene at the Novotel London Canary Wharf is the BOKAN — an award winning 2 AA Rosette dockside beacon for artisanal food and drink, which spans over three floors of the hotel.

On the 37th floor you can enjoy an International European Menu which is open for dinner throughout the week and there is also a lunch menu during the weekend.

It is here that a full American breakfast is served. There is a generous selection of cold cuts and cheeses, a very nice avocado side dish, smoked salmon, a selection of hot dishes, like beans, eggs (sunny side-up and scrambled), bacon, mushrooms and potato fritters.

There is also a selection of breads and assorted pastries. On the first day of our stay it was a sunny day and the view was absolutely breathtaking.

On Friday evening we went up to BOKAN 38 (38th floor) which serves a selection of locally distilled spirits, wines and signature cocktails. Reservations here are highly recommended as it gets quite busy.

The views open up to the Canary Wharf and the City of London.

BOKAN 39 is an outdoor space — rooftop bar and lunge which is open during the warmer months.
At Canary Coffee set on the ground level next to the hotel’s main entrance guests can enjoy a selection of artisan coffees, pastries and pizza.

Other Facilities

The hotel is ideal for both leisure and business travellers. There are 9 design inspired meeting rooms featuring state-of-the-art facilities, an indoor heated swimming pool and gym.

The hotel is pet-friendly (additional charge of 25.00 GBP per day), there is also a concierge service available to book any of your activities in London. The hotel staff was very helpful and professional. I highly recommend this hotel as the location is fantastic and the views of London even better.
