I had visited the winery during the TBEX Athens event last year, in case you missed it you can read the story here. Domaine Costa Lazaridi is an impressive winery located in Kapandriti, a 45 minute drive from the centre of Athens. On Saturday morning, Eleanna of Lace and Macarons, Marissa of My Greece My Travels, Chryssoula of Travelpassionate and I set on a road trip to the winery to spend the day, learning about wines, cooking and enjoying great company.

We were first welcomed by coffee and cake, which was very welcoming since it was still early. Afterwards we were taken on the tour of the Museum, learning about the history of wine and the process of making Balsamic vinegar Aceto Botanico which we would then use in the recipes for the day’s meal. A wine class with a wine journalist, Andreas Androulidakis then followed where the ladies enjoyed some much needed information and fine wine.

Personally, I am a huge fan of the Château Julia white wine produced by Domaine Costa Lazaridi, it is on my top list of my favourite Greek wines. A fine Chardonnay indeed.

We then got the chance to prepare our meal together with a celebrity chef George Stylianoudakis with the base of the Balsamic vinegar produced here at the winery. And since we were here with a team of the best Greek food bloggers, we knew that we would definitely eat well.

The menu was delicious indeed, consisting of a mixed green salad seasoned with the Red Seal Balsamic vinegar, rabbit (kouneli) cooked in White Botanico, pork tenderloin prepared with Botanico II and delicious cherry tomatoes, sweet and sour chicken cooked in Botanico Brown Seal sauce and served with pasta, and last but not least ice-cream topped with Botanico Gold Seal. There is no fine meal without fine wine, and of course there was plenty.

After a great meal experience and the final glass of Methexis a fine grape distill with its own aromatic character that goes well with a cup of coffee or dessert, we said goodbye to our hosts and headed back into town.

We didn’t leave empty handed, a whole collection of Balsamic vinegar followed us back home in order to further experiment with the fine art of cooking.

If you are a wine lover the you must definitely visit the Museum and winery:
